There are approximately 200,000 ACL injuries every year in the United States.  Approximately 70% of those are non-contact injuries meaning that the injury occured without any external traumatic force.  These non-contact injuries can occur from a jump, landing from a jump, planting, twisting, cutting, hopping, or falling.

Research shows that a lot of these injuries can be avoided.  But how? By performing an ACL prevention program! Research shows that performing an ACL prevention program can reduce your risk of ACL injury by 50% overall and up to 67% in female athletes!  That means we could potentially reduce the number of ACL injuries by 70,000 to 93,000 per year!!! Wow.

Now that we have established that ACL prevention programs are necessary and that they work, what is an ACL prevention program?  An ACL prevention program will consist of patient education, flexibility/mobility training, balance training, proprioceptive training, dynamic stability training, jump training, agility training and strength training.  There is a lot that goes in to a good ACL prevention program.
